How To Turn On Your Automatic High Beams

Driving at night often means constantly switching between high beams and low beams to maintain visibility while avoiding glare for other drivers. Automatic High Beams are designed to make nighttime driving easier by doing that work for you.

This feature automatically adjusts your headlights based on traffic and lighting conditions, helping improve visibility while reducing driver distraction.

What Are Automatic High Beams?

AHB are part of Toyota Safety Sense and are designed to help enhance visibility when driving at night. Once activated, the system uses a forward-facing camera to detect oncoming vehicles or vehicles ahead of you.

When the road is clear, your high beams turn on automatically. When another vehicle is detected, the automatic high beams turn off to avoid blinding oncoming traffic. This happens seamlessly without you needing to touch the controls.

How To Activate Automatic High Beams

In most newer Toyota vehicles with Toyota Safety Sense, the Automatic High Beam control is located on the headlight stalk, found on the left side of the steering wheel.

You will typically see the symbol on the stalk, often marked with a headlight icon and an “A.” This is the control used to activate the system.
